The Dirty Dozen Trash the Dress

Why would anyone want to
 #trashthedress

So why would anyone want to #trashthedress?

"Trash the dress", sometimes known as "rock the frock", is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. Such photography often takes place on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings. The ‘bride’ wears her wedding dress and may effectively ruin the dress in the process by getting it wet, dirty, or, in extreme circumstances, tearing or destroying the garment.

For over 25 years I have been privileged to have been photographing weddings, beautiful brides wearing stunningly gorgeous dresses, in beautiful surroundings for their perfect day. But for the last couple of years, I’ve been harbouring a secret, for on my ‘bucket list’ I have wanted to completely turn this on its head, and to:-
  • Photograph more than two brides together (I had the pleasure to record twin sister’s wedding day once)
  • Place a bride in a wedding dress in surroundings where you would never expect to be seen wearing one.

Then a light bulb moment, why not attempt the ultimate…  After putting out a request on Facebook for volunteers to help stage, a trash the dress, then being inundated with well over 35, I knew that 12 ‘brides’ was more than achievable. … #trashthedress #dirtydozen was created.

Then above all my expectations an offer to use J C Balls (heavy plant machinery) premises as a setting. Wow,  so much to work with, so many opportunities!

After many months of planning, some very generous businesses, and some really willing ladies, I’m pleased to share with you the results of an extraordinarily surreal day.

All the dresses and 'props' have all been very kindly donated, (sample and ex display dresses) from local Bridal suppliers, whom we work closely with.
